Truth is, I've never seen anything wrong with cannabis. Nothing. I never knew why it was so demonized. It just never made sense to me.
Like many kids growing up in the 70's, I tried it as a teenager. and honestly... I liked it.
Back then, we had to sneak around. Even as adults you had to. Cannabis was stigmatized- as was it's use and anyone who used it.
We called it weed. Grass was in the 60's. Ganja came much later, and never really was what we called it in Maryland. Pot seemed to stick, as does sticky pot. But I digress.
Weed costed $15 an ounce for good quality back in the day. Good, meaning Aculpulco Gold, Sensimilla, and Panama Red. If you were lucky, you'd find thai sticks. You could find hash fairly easily, too.
As any young adult does, I spent a few years here and there, figuring out a career path. I found a good fit, excelled, and learned a whole bunch of skills that I used pretty much every day even now. Life is a journey, isn't it?
Remember when you were young and someone said to choose something you love and do that for a living, because then it never feels like work? It's true. I realize that now that I'm older. I actually started my travel career in 2008/2009. To be honest, I was a good 15 years ahead of time. I launched the site, it worked great. People were happy. But... I wasn't. I wasn't because I did not have the access I needed to all things travel that I felt my customers, my guests, deserved. So, I waited. I watched. I continued reading, and researching. And I kept looking for the right way to wrap a business around an industry that was yet to come, or how to make it work within existing industry norms. And so I waited, I positioned, and I kept in touch, kept the fires burring, until, in 2018, I relaunched as 420Compass.com.
I honestly back burnered a but while wrapping p my "real" career. Went through COVID with the ret of the world. I was actually away form home when the shut things down. We all stayed home and ate too much during that time. Travel died, Hotels died. And, unfortunately, many industries, many businesses, and many souls passed, too.
Move ahead a few years and here we are. Ready to roll. All tooled up, built out, and ready to help launch an industry. More importantly, ready to help others enjoy the kinds of vacations I like to take. Which brings me to...
When I was in Jamaica a couple times back I witnessed a psilocybin "ceremony" and was totally impressed not just with the preparations, the thought, the setting... but with the tenderness and compassion I witnessed. It dawned on me that plant medicine should be a part of my niche as well: cannabis goes hand in hand with centuries of medicinal needs, and with other plants that have served the same purpose. Mushrooms. Ibogaine, Ayahuasca- these natural healers have been used since the dawn of time, and are experiencing a revival of interest. I honestly find it fascinating.
Being an open minded individual, I see these as things others might want to know about. When I hear how effective psilocybin and ayahuasca are proving to be for our veterans with PTSD, I get excited. I see people with addiction pushing through the barriers with the help of these medicines. I've learned that the healing is part plant, and part shaman. It's not just the journey- it's who is there for you.
So, while I've got some years left in me. I intend to continue doing what I do until I can't do it anymore: travel, take pics, and write. Share what I find. Life can be filled with discoveries if we choose to look- and I'm looking. Been looking, still looking, and will probably always look. I hope you'll look with me :-)
Welcome... to 420 Compass.
