You ever notice how you won't hear a word for twenty years, the you're hearing it everywhere?
For me, it's "the flow".
The what?
I kinda' understood, but I thought it was something worth thinking about... So I went back to Jamaica. I mean, why not, right? When a girl has thinking to do...
Interesting thing about Jamaica. Ancient truths become current wisdoms.
I was staying on 7 Mile Beach by myself, and decided to take an evening walk around sunset. (Always the best time to take photos, which is mainly why I went on that trip. And to contemplate "flow".) The beach was kinda' busy for a weeknight, so there was a lot going on. People were super nice that evening. Even more than usual, too. I remember the most genuine smiles and hello's from complete strangers who came from all over. It was awesome. Others were taking photos, I took some for people on their vacations. One woman actually handed me a film camera on its last shot. When the film started rewinding I thought I had broken something. Anyway, the entire evening was like a mini Woodstock or something, but Jamaica style. And it's always like that on 7 Mile. Nice people, kind words, welcoming smiles. It all just... flowed.
So here I was, walking along, enjoying the flow, and I looked to my left and saw these boats bobbing lazily in the gentle surf. The sun sunk just that little bit lower, casting rays upwards and positioning itself just beautifully. I was awfully glad to be so relaxed and to be right there right then, with the mindset to just take pics of whatever looked interesting.
That's it! Flowing isn't fighting against the tide, it's going with the current. It's vibing and vibing with. It's no worries, no stress, no drama. It lasts a while- and it's awesome. It's an afternoon with your besties or a weekend with family. It's appreciating what is there and who is there, and just letting occasions unfold around you. And it's a gift that costs absolutely nothing to share, and is more valuable than I had realized.
Thank you again, Jamaica.
